Difference Between MBR and GPT In Detail
Master Boot Record ( MBR )
MBR stands for Master Boost Record . MBR basically is the old standard for managing the hard disk, and it is also being used by many people. It was mainly introduced with IBM PC DOS in 1983. Basically it can resides at beginning level of the hard disk and holds the all information on how the partitions are organized. MBR also have the .exe code that are used for scanning the partitions for the operating system and load up the boot up code for the operating system.
MBR is a specially boot sector located at the beginning of a drive. These sectors contains the boot loader for the installed operating system and information about the partitions parts. This loader is a small bit of code that is used for loading the larger boot from other parts of the partitions. If your window won't boot and sometimes it overwritten then you can easily repair your MBR within a OS.
MBR works with many hard disks which is upto 2 Tera Bye (2TB) sized. But the main thing is that, it won't be able to handle the space more than 2 TB of space. This is a little hack which is so silly and shouldn't be necessary. MBR became the world biggest and top industry standard because almost everyone used for partitioning and booting from disks.
GUID Partition Table ( GPT )
GPT stands for GUID Partition Table. GPT is the largest standard for laying for hard disks partitions. It is basically used for unique identifiers ( GUID ) for defining the partitions and it is a part of the UEFI Standard. With GPT, you can easily create theoretically and numberless partitions into your PC hard drive, even though as many OS generally restricted that only you can create 128 partitions mostly.
Unlike MBR that basically limits that each partition to only 2TB in size but GPT can hold upto 2^64 as which is equal to the 9.44 ZB for a 512-byte block. In the most usable Windows , means Microsoft Windows, the limit is 256 TB.
The main difference between both is that, in MBR disk, boot data and partitions can be able to store data in one place. If this data is overwritten or corrupted, you're in the trouble. But in GPT, which is able to store your data in multiple copies od disks. If any error occur, GPT can take notice, and configure your problems from different locations.
Windows can be only be able to boot from GPT on UEFI-based computers with running 64-bit operating systems like Window 7, Window 8 , Window 8.1, Window 10 etc. Other all popular OS can also used this technique like Intel Macs, Apple's APT scheme, Linux etc.
GPT can be able to speed up your boot time process as compared to MBR, I wouldn't make a big deal with that. Remember that, it can only speed up first few seconds and then slow as slow.
The general conclusion is that, you will be able to find with both either MBR (Master Boot Record ) or GPT ( GUID Partiton Table ).
