Why proper thigh muscle building is important

Thigh muscle building is an essential part of having a well rounded, over all body. Many body builders simply neglect to build their lower body and the result is embarrassingly comical. Intense leg workout can also help build the upper body, by triggering certain body mechanisms which result in extra muscle growth all over. This makes thigh muscle building, as rigorous as it may be; very important.

Leg workouts are definitely the hardest type of exercises that you will encounter; they are much more demanding than an average arm or bicep workout. This intense workout will boost hormone levels, which are needed to build and gain muscle. Many thigh training exercises will require weights, which will also exercise different parts of your upper body; specifically your triceps. If you have not been training your lower body, it is time to start and look for a fitness trainer who has personal trainer certifications.

The Motions

One of the best exercises for the lower body is the squat. These can be performed with barbells to increase the intensity. Care should be taken not to squat too low when using a barbell in order to reduce pressure on the knees. Lunges are another great exercise, and these can be combined with dumbbells as well. The use of a leg press machine can also be useful in this endeavor. However, it is important to note that machines focus on exercising isolated muscles, which makes it good for toning and exercising specific muscles. If you are trying to build other leg muscles and arms at the same time; it is best to use free weight.

A very effective exercise, particularly for the muscles in the back of the legs is what is called the stiff legged dead lift. This workout consists of placing the barbell on the floor and bending down to pick it up. The catch is that the legs must be kept straight; the entire bend comes from the waist. The arms are kept straight; the hands fix themselves onto the bar while the body is then straightened, so that the lift comes from the legs and thighs and not the arms. Leg curls are a good exercise as well; these can be performed with a leg curling machine.

Other Exercises

Cycling is an easy way to condition and strengthen the thigh muscles, as these are the primary muscles used. Try to have lower body and thigh workouts in your routine at least once or twice a week depending on your routine and workout schedule. If you are trying to lose weight, a combination of cycling and jogging can be effective in both losing weight and building muscle, however if you are trying to build muscle mass; use weights and perform squats and other similar exercises. Consult with your physician before trying any new type of routine or exercises, especially if you have knee or ankle problems. While leg workouts can be grueling and unglamorous (especially squats) it is important to remember the incredible effects they are having on your body. Keep that in mind during those workouts, and your dream body will be on its way.
